Godolphin aiming for feature success with Modern News as Rebel’s Romance set for Fred Archer Stakes

If Royal Ascot is still on your mind, there’s plenty of group and class 1 action this weekend on the flat at Newmarket this weekend.

Two listed races and then the Group 3 Criterion Stakes feature on the card on Saturday at the famous Newmarket track as the Irish Derby and Newcastle’s coveted staying handicap in the same afternoon.

Fillies’ Stakes Listed Race Betting Tip – 2.05pm

Minnetonka at 5/2

This is a fascinating 6f listed race for some impressive 2yo’s that have shown potential on their debuts and beyond.

A few runners have already taken on the big stage at Royal Ascot, including Miami Girl who finished just under five lengths behind Dramatized in the Group 2 5f sprint, Queen Mary Stakes.

The Richard Hannon-trained horse has been getting close to a few winners recently and has a pretty good strike rate of 10%.

But Miami Girl’s stablemate Minnetonka is the big favorite for this after winning her last race by seven length at Salford in a Class 4.

This filly by Kingman could have huge potential and after that emphatic win on debut any progression from that could be the winning answer among this field.

But there are 18 runners in this and they all have their upside in a pretty open contest.

Frankie Dettori is on board the Ralph Beckett-trained Lezoo who is around 6’s and won on his debut and sole run.

Believing reared up in the stalls at Royal Ascot’s Albany Stakes and clearly George Boughey’s yard is going well, and there must be a great bit of confidence having already been entered into that Group 3.

James Doyle saddles another of Boughey’s runners from the Highclere Stud as he has on numerous occasions this season to great effect including on Cachet in the 1000 Guineas.

And the 31-year-old trainer also sends out Malrescia who has won twice after finishing four lengths behind Dramatised, the Queen Mary Stakes winner.

This makes for a fascinating contest where it seems the favorite should progress and live up to her pedigree while an each-way chance on Believing also holds huge value.

Fred Archer Stakes Betting Tip – 2.40pm

Rebel Romance at 3/1

Regal Reality put in a hearty performance at Royal Ascot in the Wolferton Stakes finishing fourth and on that run alone you could certainly argue his case for the step up to 1m4f suiting.

Dubawi’s progeny are running to good effect this season, which makes Charlie Appleby’s Godolphin runner Rebel’s Romance even more interesting at 3/1.

With William Buick on board too the gelding could make all well-weighted against the likes of Max Vega.

The Appleby-trained horse will go off a 5lb lower mark after losing twice at Meydan this calendar year by a distance, but makes him only 4lb higher than when making all in a Group 2 contest winning by over 5l.

Debut run on turf looks interesting at this stage and with Buick on board again, it’s a big sign of potential.

Modern News 2/11

Buick could be set for a huge day but will be up against it in this Group 3 7f.

He will ride Modern News once more, another top-class Godolphin horse.

Aldaary for William Haggas could be the main threat after rattling off a hattrick in style amongst big fields and then stepping up to Class 1 company was no trouble at all.

He’s only 3lb higher than for that win and tops the ratings of this field at 117.

But the ground should be in Modern News’ favor who favors quick ground while Aldaary prefers a bit of give.

At around 5’s in the betting the 4yo for Appleby who has won over course and distance before is the ideal shot for this.
