6/25/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Caulfield

Caulfield is where Victorian metro racing heads to this Saturday with nine races set down. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:50) Take It To The Neds Level Hcp 1200m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

2 Unusual Culture (BetNow: $3.10 TOP ODDS) on top. Former Kiwi filly that makes her Australian debut for the Maher/Eustace camp. She moved very well on speed in a Horsham jumpout, leading throughout under Johnny Allen and looked a nice horse. L Meech on, it looks clear. Jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down.

danger

1 She’s All Class (BetNow: $3.80 TOP ODDS) is a huge watch. Formerly with Chris Waller but is now with the Maher/Eustace camp. She has let Brae and the team down after such a promising two year old, but we have seen that a change of scenery can work wonders with these enigmas. Watch the market and see what it does.

long shot

3 Jezoulenko (BetNow: $11.00 TOP ODDS) can be an improver. Matty Ellerton trained three years old that is several weeks between runs since summarizing here where he got back to near last in the run and failed to fire a shot behind Winning Verse. That was too bad to be true, so he gets another look.

Race 2. (12:25) Neds Punters Toolbox Hcp 1100m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

I’m in the corner of 3 Ghanaian (BetNow: $1.90 TOP ODDS) but I certainly won’t be declaring her. She made an absolute mess of them on debut down the straight at Flemington and visually, he was quite impressive, but what did she beat? I am saying, for the most part, nothing. But, she looks a good move, better for the run…I think she wins, but not taking the silly shorts.

danger

6 Eros (BetNow: $18.00 TOP ODDS) ran a narrow second to Winning Revolution at Sale at the midweeks. He was first up and had the cold sit on the eventual winner. He looked the winner himself when presented but just could not quite finish the job. Better for the run, he has the form to give this a shake.

long shot

11 Throne Bone (BetNow: $34.00 TOP ODDS) can be an improver up in trip for Jerome Hunter. He summarized over 1000m at Sale where he got back to near last in the run and was a real eye catcher late in the piece behind She Dances. That run was very good, but was it one off, or can he improve? Interesting to see how he goes.

Race 3. (13:00) Neds Fully Loaded (Bm84) 1100m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

6 Irish Angel (BetNow: $SP.00 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win one. If you were on her back at Rosehill a few weeks back, apologies for bringing it back up. I think it’s safe to say that with proper clear air, she goes close to winning instead of a fourth to Per Inaway, getting no luck in the straight when seemingly full of running. Ready to win and is a definite threat here.

danger

5 Duchess Of Dorset (BetNow: $SP.00 TOP ODDS) can be a big improver with L Meech back aboard. Summarized over 975m at Swan Hill and on face value, she was very plain late in the piece behind Jagged Edge. Fitter and up in trip, L Meech back steering, expect this mare to pounce on the lead and take beating.

long shot

11 Energy Within (BetNow: $SP.00 TOP ODDS) saves her best for Mornington but she has a touch of quality about her. Last run was in the Proud Miss at Group level when down the track behind Seradess. She’d be near a good thing if this was at Mornington but with her form lines de ella, she commands respect.

Race 4. (13:35) Neds Whatever You Bet On Qty 2000m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

I’m with 10 Excellence (BetNow: $5.00 TOP ODDS) in what looks a pretty even contest. Got the speed on in front at Flemington last time and in what became survival of the fittest, he came to the fore and was too good, beating Born A King, who won impressively last Saturday. Think it’ll be a genuine tempo again and he’ll be strong late.

danger

2 No Effort (BetNow: $5.00 TOP ODDS) has a fab record at the Caulfield 2000m. Four weeks between runs since she bolted up at this track/distance where she led throughout and was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure to win. She has such a good racing style and that holds her in good stead.

long shot

7 The Gladiator (BetNow: $61.00 TOP ODDS) should be suited up in trip for Craig Thornton. Australian debut came a few weeks back over 1800m at Flemington and he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Welsh Legend in a pleasing first up effort. Like him up in trip, got good upside and his best NZ form is good enough to measure up in a race like this.

Race 5. (14:10) Neds Same Race Multi (Bm78) 1600m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

It’s contend or pretend time for 17 Coolth (BetNow: $SP.00). Team McEvoy trains this guy and I actually think he’s racing in pretty good form despite not winning, his latest run being several weeks ago here when second to impressive winner Welsh Legend. Fresh legs, good speed in front, he’ll get his chance to launch and finish over the top.

danger

4 falls (BetNow: $SP.00) is racing well. He just went a bit too keen on speed at Sandown last time but despite that, he actually stuck on pretty well in defeat behind an in form Visinari. If he can harness his energy from him a bit better, he’s certainly good enough to take this out, so I’m not penning him.

long shot

10 flexible (BetNow: $SP.00) can be a big improver at odds. James Cummings trained mare that was several weeks between runs when racing in the Comme Bella Fille race from two weeks back at Randwick and I thought her effort was a pass mark given the ordinary set up. She is much better suited here and she does have a touch of quality when right.

Race 6. (14:45) Lamaro’s Hotel Hcp 1000m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

Good test here for 7 Flooding (BetNow: $2.30) but he looks a promising animal for the Price/Kent camp. 2/2 this time in, winning fresh in a Mornington maiden before going to the Pakenham Synthetic where he made an absolute mess from on speed. He has sustained speed and that is suited to the short course. Hard to beat.

danger

4 Squid Game (BetNow: $4.20) is a good horse that has upside. He was several weeks between runs when racing behind Passive Aggressive a few weeks back and while he was never picking up the filly, his finale was more than sound. Around a bend is a query, but he’s genuine. Leading contender.

long shot

I reckon a fast run 1000m will suit 2 Kooled (BetNow: $15.00). Ran down the straight three weeks back at Flemington where he got a tad keen on speed and just felt the pinch late behind Passive Aggressive, and we know what she did last Saturday. Soft run from the gate, he’s a must for multiples.

Race 7. (15:20) Miss Liddy’s Giddyap Lap-Bm84 1200m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

I’ll take a chance on 5 Zoltan (BetNow: $14.00), who resumes for Symon Wilde. Handy galloper that has had one jumpout to get ready for his return from him, which was over 1000m at Mortlake, and gee he looked to move well to my eye when second under a hold. Runs well fresh and this is a winnable race.

danger

3 Blaze A Trail (BetNow: $3.20) is a pure dry tracker so with that in mind, I am on guard with the forecast for rain on Friday. He went to Caulfield first up and on dry ground, he is very effective. He sat wide but kept finding the line and drove hard late to win. He just wants a dry deck, and if he gets that here, he’s the one to beat.

long shot

4 Exeters (BetNow: $21.00) can be an improver at odds for Danny O’Brien. He ran in the Golden Topaz at Swan Hill where he was ridden with a sit and battled away pretty well in defeat behind Triple Missile, who went like a rocket. If they ride him with more intent and settle on speed, they wouldn’t shock if he figured in the finish.

Race 8. (16:00) Stephen Howell Mem. Trophy Hcp 1400m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

9 Cardinal Gem… (BetNow: $3.10) surely the rub of the green will go his way? Three weeks between runs since racing over this trip at Flemington and really, any hint of clear air and he wins, but unfortunately he got badly checked in the straight and that sealed his fate. He’s flying, deserves a win and gets his chance.

danger

2 Eastern Legend (BetNow: $15.00) is sneaky flying. Lovely ride from Nolen saw him win two back at Pakenham before going to Caulfeild where he didn’t quite get the rub of the green when it mattered and should have finished closer behind Hopon Harry. Dangerous if he gets clear air.

long shot

12 Masterful (BetNow: $21.00) looks a horse with talent for Julius Sandhu. Wide no cover when resuming in a Mornington maiden but he kept trucking into the race and when asked for the big effort, he found and drew clear late to win impressively. Good test here, but wouldn’t shock if he can pinch a first four spot.

Race 9. (16:33) Catanach’s Jewelers (Bm84)

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

Gee I am interested in 11 He’s Our Bonneval (BetNow: $8.00). Former UK miler who makes his Australian debut for the Busuttin/Young camp. His UK form of him reads just so well, his latest run of him being a second to Dark Shift, who has gone on to win multiple races since, including the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. His two jumpouts from him at Cranbourne have been outstanding to the eye and really, I think he could Group class at least. Really keen on him in the get out.

danger

1 Bam’s On Fire (BetNow: $17.00) looks to have returned in good order. Maher/Eustace camp trains this mare, who summarized in the Straight Six and was held up at a crucial stage when trying to build the revs. She got clear late and was good to the line in a strong return. Fitter, in the right camp, she’s a key threat.

long shot

7 Polanco (BetNow: $12.00) have found positive form…can he hold it? He was specked at a big price two weeks back at Sandown and those who took the big odds knew what they were doing because they ran a much improved race when a narrow second to Umgawa. He’s hit and miss, but if he runs up to last time, he’ll be in the finish.

BEST BET: Race Nine Number 11 He’s Our Bonneval

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 9 Cardinal Gem

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 5 Zoltan
